ShopRite Donates More Than $1.4 Million to Local Charities

Regardless of who ultimately lifts the champion’s trophy at the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer, the most important winners will be the more than 45 nonprofit groups that will be receiving $1.4 million in grants as a result of the tournament.

For nearly three decades, golf fans from across the northeast have come to Atlantic County and the Jersey Shore, to watch the best female golfers in the world compete on the famed Bay Course at Seaview, A Dolce Hotel. The tournament not only hosts one of the strongest fields in women’s professional golf, it annually creates more than $19 million in economic activity in the region.

“ShopRite is thrilled to host one of New Jersey’s premier sporting events and donate $1.4 million in grants to charitable groups fighting hunger and supporting the research and treatment of debilitating diseases,” said ShopRite Spokesperson Karen Meleta. “In addition to the more than $34 million ShopRite has donated to worthy causes since becoming the title sponsor of the classic in 1992, we are equally proud of our role in supporting the growth of women’s sports and participation in the game of golf.”

“We’re extremely proud to be associated with the huge charitable impact that ShopRite has on our region,” said Tim Erensen, the tournament’s Executive Director. “Their commitment to supporting our community is such an important part of our event and we want to thank ShopRite for their tremendous support.”

Charitable and nonprofit organizations that are receiving grants include, but are not limited to:

  • Alzheimer's New Jersey
  • Embrace Kids Foundation
  • Special Olympics New Jersey
  • Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation
  • Goodwill Delaware & Delaware County
  • St. Barnabas Medical Center Foundation
  • Community FoodBank of New Jersey
  • Kessler Foundation
  • Val Skinner Foundation

Defending champion Annie Park is competing for the $1.75 million purse against past tournament champions Anna Nordqvist, Stacy Lewis, and Karrie Webb. They are joined by stars of LPGA such as Lexi Thompson, Brooke Henderson, Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Christina Kim, Natalie Gulbis, Cheyenne Woods, and New Jersey native Marina Alex.

A tremendous community effort, the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer is supported by more than 450 companies.  More than 1,000 volunteers also donate their time to serve critical needs such as marshaling, scoring, transportation, hospitality services and many other important jobs during the championship.

The ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer runs from June 3 – June 9, 2019. The 144-player field will compete over three rounds, with the tournament televised live on the Golf Channel.
